Inside My Head

The media is calling it the “fist pump heard ’round the world” and I’d like to call writing about it, “too much damn time on your hands.”  Tuesday night in St. Paul, Minnesota when Barack Obama claimed the democratic nomination, he and his wife, Michelle Obama shared a “fist bump”.  The only question that I have is who in the hell thought this was news?!

Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve never had a reporter take a picture of me and any of my friends giving each other dap.  The part that really kills me about this is that this story just didn’t appear on TMZ or in the Enquirer or even in People, but in newspapers like the Washington Post, and the New York Daily News.  One of the lines I found to be most interesting came from New York magazine, “Not only does the intimate gesture between Michelle and Barack Obama, exchanged on Tuesday night in front of thousands of fans, indicate that they are sort of hip; it also tells us that they love each other and probably still have sex.”

Are these reporters really serious?!  Now I have to reflect back  to 1992 when Bill Clinton played the saxophone on the Arsenio Hall show and I remember just how much hype that got.  Nobody needs to read about every time a white man says dude, a mexican says homes(and not in reference to real estate), or a black man giving somebody dap.  Barack Obama IS black so when he does something that any black person would do, the entire country doesn’t need to be reminded about his blackness.  My hats off to the media on breaking this story, and PLEASE don’t think about reporting Obama’s next piece of chicken.
